Heard not Seen

But too good not to share...

Having spent a significant part of the last three days behind the wheel, and crossing a good chunk of the East Pilbara in the process, my extensive backlog of podcasts has been cleared. Heard some really cool tracks and consequently have some new names to investigate but the absolute pick of the bunch was nothing new at all.

To hear Gilles Peterson giving a retrospective of his career and describing the journey he has taken with music was nothing short of amazing. How amazing? DJ has now made it on to my list of dream jobs. But only if I'm already famous and can just spend all day listening to music and sharing it with people.

Listen to it here or get it on yo device via iTunes.

Eat Your Words

Turns out Port Hedland can actually be quite attractive. I'm not quite ready to take back the trash I've talked about the place but I'll think about it...

Sexual Healing

In my mind these guys are busting out some Marvin Gaye, Hot 8 Brass Band style. Or perhaps Jesus Walks aka Dave Chappelle's Block Party. Either way this pic is making me smile...

Skills Shortage

Mining companies are now being forced to employ people who are outsmarted by toilet roll holders.

For my favorite gypsies

This one is for Hamish and Kat who have just left Koh Tao. Seven years ago it was all pretty low key with bungalows spread out along Sairee Beach and a couple of concrete boxes which constituted a town at the pier. Nightlife was a series of little shacks along Sairee that would stake out a patch of sand come sunset. Pretty laid back stuff, just bamboo flares, axe cushions and Ministry of Sound chillout circa 1999. Oh and fire twirling, coz that's what dreadlocked travel bums are into. Diving wise there were a couple of big shops and a few actual dive boats but mostly it was old fishing boats. The boat we were on was a freelancer that worked with a few small shops. Ended up spending a couple of nights out on the boat with the crew squid fishing, drinking Chang, and sleeping on axe cushions out on the deck. Good times. Thanks for bringing back the memories team.

Busted ass tank

Some more stuff from round work for y'all.

Time to share

It dawned on me today there has to be something better do do with photos than just move them from memory card to hard drive. I'm looking forward to delving into the archives but to get the ball rolling here are some sunset shots from round work coz that's what I'm looking at now.
